Practice and Teaching
Students learn standing and sitting poses, forward and backward bends, twists and inversions, supine and relaxation poses.
Emphasis is given on alignment and safe practice, recognizing limits in oneself and in others, experiencing and understanding the effects of basic and classic asanas, practicing and teaching from simple to complex and from basic to advanced.
Students learn about the importance of restorative poses and how to use props for individual support. This gives the necessary foundation for the advanced RYS300 of Aspects of Yoga which emphasizes therapeutic benefits of yoga.
Attention is given to how to demonstrate and teach a class skillfully and safely, to stay in contact with the class, to see where an asana practice needs adaptation and when to use props.
Students learn to plan and write class outlines logically and safely.
Some specific aspects are addressed, like how to adapt when teaching elderly or how to practice during menstruation.
Anatomy & Physiology
Topics are the musculoskeletal system, digestive system, endocrine system, immune system, autonomic nervous system and how a yoga practice helps with stress. The students will learn how to implement anatomy and physiology into their practice and their teaching.
Ethics for Yoga Teachers / Philosophy / Conscious Living
Philosophical topics and ethical living are taught in a pragmatic way so that the students can refer to them on a personal level and implement them into their daily lives.
