When I first learned about Al Gore’s advocacy and his documentary on climate change in 2006, it reinforced my belief that raising our consciousness is essential, regardless of our life circumstances.
My yoga instructor once shared a powerful insight: if we encounter difficulty or discomfort in a specific yoga pose, we shouldn’t shy away from it. Instead, to truly address the issue or relieve the pain, we should approach that pose with a different mindset and heightened awareness.
In neurobiology, it is understood that the brain is capable of lifelong learning and can develop complex neuronal circuits. Our attitudes significantly influence the maintenance and functionality of our brains. As our neural networks become more intricate, our capacities for empathy, humility, and truthfulness enhance, distinguishing us from animals. This ability offers us a pathway to higher consciousness and advances us on the ladder of humanity.
Mysticism teaches about knowing oneself by redirecting attention inward, quieting the mind, and focusing on the soul’s seat. This internal journey leads to self-awareness and a deeper understanding of our essence. By transcending physical limitations, we can achieve a cosmic consciousness.
What I aim to highlight is that various disciplines echo the same message: whether through physical yoga, environmental stewardship, cognitive development, or meditation, we can expand our understanding and elevate our consciousness in many facets of life.
